Marula Designs is a new collection of quilt patterns developed by Evelyn Young to feature the amazing Shweshwe fabric from South Africa.  The designs are traditional, inspired by the fabric, and influenced by African traditions.  Fabric yardage requirements are specifically for Shweshwe, which is not quite as wide as other available cotton fabrics.  Instructions are detailed and clear.  Quilt construction tips and suggestions for quilting are included.

Over the years Evelyn has enjoyed a variety of sewing experiences.  While a student at Illinois State University, she worked in the costume shop of the theater department.  Later she worked in alterations at a department store in Bloomington, Illinois.  Over the years she has done a lot of dressmaking, including making four wedding gowns - not all for her!  Evelyn has been quilting since 1998 and stopped counting number of quilts made after the first six years.

By then she had made 110 quilts, but only 30 were bed size quilts.  People jump to the conclusion that she could not possibly work outside the home.  On the contrary, she still works full time.  When the work day ends, the quilting day begins.  She makes it a practice to find time to quilt or do something quilt-related every day.

What does Evelyn like best about quilting?  She really likes buying fabric!  Especially Shweshwe.
